Saudi Arabia is located in the Arabian Peninsula and therefore Arabic is the mother tongue of the majority of its population, with a minority of citizens who speak some of the ancient Semitic languages such as Khulanism and Mehri. There is also a diversity in the dialects of the Arabic language in Saudi Arabia, which is usually divided on several axes, the most important geographical axis such as provinces and regions, and the tribal axis such as tribes and different clans, and the axis of civilization and Bedouin and the axis of influencing arrivals of pilgrims. The Saudi scholar Suleiman Al-Darsouni has documented about 23 dialects within the Kingdom alone, each with its own distinctive characteristics andvocabulary.

About the Saudi dialect course
This course will introduce you to Saudi Arabic. The aim of the course is to build your vocabulary and introduce you to common greetings and expressions. To this end, the course book features full-length situational conversations pertaining to daily life in KSA, which you will be able to practice aloud in class. This method was chosen in order for you to learn vocabulary and expressions in context. This course is suitable for those who have already studied Arabic to at least lower-intermediate level. You must be familiar with basic grammar and vocabulary, as well as with the Arabic alphabet. (If you study Arabic using the al-Kitaab textbook, you should have finished studying al-Kitaab, Part One.) Saudi Arabic, presents relatively few difficulties to the Arabic student, as it is one of the closest out of all regional Arabic dialects to Modern Standard Arabic.
